One fucking heart,

"the heart wants what the heart wants?"
"follow your heart? "

they're just lines you say when you dont know how else to explain 'bout what kind of relationship you're having now, in denial or whatsoever, or that you have no logical explanation for whatever you're feeling. just words, words that dont mean a thing. bullshit.

i dont remember how many nights i cried, and how much pain i felt throughout, how deeply unhappy a person i am. i dont want to live in regret, yet it still seems worth the risk. if love was rational, if my heart didnt want what it wants, things will be much less complicated.

Looking back on January,

some photo spammage (and lovely faces i met too) from january before i turn my blog into a food blog literally. i'm not joking but i've got visuals from like at least four more cafe-resto visits from january itself, to get it up on here. why am i so greedy? that, i have no idea too. i'm really trying my best to you know, post everything up asap, so that i can start to keep my blog up-to-date. but somehow, this is turning out to be tougher than i thought. it's almost march, and whut, i'm still looking back on january. urgh, no good.

this was week one of jan @ ksuites w wongmajesty and my favorite girls,

i realize i seldom post pictures of my parents and myself on my blog, so here's two photos of mom and myself. i know, my mom looks so young for her age, she do look like she's in her late twenties or early thirties no? she gets the latter sometimes, i mean it should be a compliment huh, for her. i get it quite a lot too, for my case, looking like seventeen, eighteen. blahblahblah. but i still cannot believe that someone actually came up to me and thought i was fifteen. i mean are you kidding me, fifteen?! i think it's just... insulting. so, good and bad uh?

huiyi's birthday lunch @ société canteen and cupcake engineer (cluny court),

i used to frequent cluny court a bit during my younger days (i've got quite a few direct buses to that area), well things are so different after botanic gardens mrt was built, but more convenient definitely. i spied the exterior of société canteen and cupcake engineer on several occasions, in fact every time otw back if i ever pass timah area, so i suggested this breakfast hideout to the girls for huitototo's bday brunch. the cafe was really small though, they also had an open concept kitchen. good and bad i guess - coffee talk over the counter was made possible, but also, the smell of grease and food got stuck to our clothes. all three of us ordered baked eggs (because they looked so good on their fb) instead of the usual egg ben or big breakfast. what a wise choice, it was really yummy though the portion was quite small and we waited forever for our food to arrive. i've read quite a few reviews about their slow service too, seems like they are understaffed. the baked eggs were really good though!

our next stop was cupcake engineer, a really small shop too though. we picked one each - hoho horlicks, sweet caramel and salted caramel. couldnt exactly taste the horlicks flavor though, seems just like a normal pound cake w frosting to me. didnt quite like the frosting because it seems slighty greasy.. they also have unique flavors that they 'engineered' like the bandung cupcake, and the recent pineapple tarts cupcake for cny. pb and banana sounds good to me though, but it wasnt available that day. after trying so many different cupcakes from local and overseas' bakeries, i still loved the ones at loewen gardens farm market sold by a caucasian lady, i dont know the name of her bakestore sadly, sighpie. yes and of course, the ones i really enjoyed were the ones i had in melbourne... so good.

Broccoli Carrot Raisin Salad // Strawberry and Yogurt Parfait

Photobucket
i felt like i was in need of some healthy food tonight since i will be feasting the entire next week. i was also trying my best to help demolish (haha) all the vege left at home - i still have lots of mandarin oranges from cny though, thinking of ways to help clear them. neways, i made broccoli, carrots, and raisins salad. this was extremely easy to make, super refreshing, and such a feast for the eye. all you need is broccoli, carrot (sliced), and raisins. i added in raw garbanzo beans since i have them at home as well. just combine the broccoli, carrots and raisins in a large bowl. add in olive oil, lemon juice, some honey to sweeten things up, and of course, salt and pepper. toss them all together till well coated. that's all! love the bite and crunch of broccoli, contrasted w the sweet tang of raisins. and btw that's an entire head of broccoli to myself!! just so you know, broccoli's my favorite vege and is most certainly welcome at my table anytime. watch the video recipe here. (source:cookingguide)

throwing in another recipe that's perfect for breakfast, dessert, or just a snack in between meals,
Photobucket
this was taken back in december, but liked i said, this is really good anytime and i make these very often since making it requires minimal time, and it's so delicious. all you need to do is to layer your glass with some yogurt (i used strawberry nonfat yogurt here), followed by diced strawberries and top it with granola or cereal. repeat the layers another time, and serve! there's a lot of variations you can find online, but basically, just make it your own! throw in your favorite fruits, nuts, raisins, or even drizzle it w maple syrup or top it off w cool whip, anyway you want it.

checked out the charming indie cafe, strangers' reunion, w @lishwen sometime back in december (way way way overdued post yes i know) she's officially my cafe-hopping buddy, so glad to have her. neways, we have been wanting to head down since forever, heard so much about this place and of course, their waffles.
i figured that i had to give their buttermilk waffles a try, instead of the usual all-day or late breakfast options. picked the one topped w berries, banana slices and a scoop of vanilla icecream. (the other two choices are greek yogurt or maple syrup) the waffles were so damn good, one of the best ones i've had in a long time, true story. the ones are haato left quite an impression too, go try 'em! neways back to the buttermilk waffles, they were so fluffy, loved the crispy crunch at the edges too. no wonder everyone cant stop raving about it, and since then, i've been back once more to satisfy my cravings for waffles. lishwen picked the smoked salmon pizza, very typical of her xxx

us being us, we had to settle for desserts somewhere after our meal - perhaps our tummy will kick a fuss if we dont. we hopped onto a bus and made our way to tiong bahru estate, which was just a few stops away. i spotted drips while i dropped by orange thimble sometime back, i swear i have been visiting tiong estate so often due to the emergence of all these new indie cafes. not complaining though, i love these places. so we were at drips, a really spacious cafe, with lots colorful touches, vintage furniture for sales as well. we ordered the raspberry tart, and tropical mango tart to share. both the fruit tarts were both immensely good, taste wised, living up to it's good looks. the buttery tarts were so good, if you have a chance to pay drips a visit, go for their tarts - highly recommended! of course, they do serve breakfast food, baked breads and sandwiches too.
